Rapper Offset Shot Outside Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida
Rapper Offset was shot Monday evening outside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. His representative confirmed he was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood with non-life-threatening injuries and is stable and being closely monitored. Casino operations continued as normal following the incident, and police said the scene was secured quickly.
What Happened
The Seminole Police Department confirmed that the shooting occurred after 7 p.m. in the valet area outside the casino. Police said the incident followed a fight and that one person sustained injuries. Two people were detained at the scene. A second person who was detained has not been charged. Investigators said they were working to identify one or more additional people involved.
Police did not publicly identify Offset as the victim in their statement. His representative confirmed his identity and condition to multiple outlets, saying he "was shot and is currently at the hospital receiving medical care. He is stable and being closely monitored."
Offset's father, Kiari Cephus, told journalist Roland Martin he had communicated with his son and was on a flight to Miami. "So far so good," he said.
Lil Tjay Arrested in Connection With the Altercation
Rapper Lil Tjay, whose legal name is Tione Jayden Merritt, was arrested in connection with the fight that preceded the shooting. The 24-year-old South Bronx rapper was charged with disorderly conduct and operating a vehicle without a valid license. He was booked into Broward County Jail on a combined bond of $3,000. He was not charged in the shooting itself.
Lil Tjay is known for his sing-rap style and has been a prominent figure in New York's drill scene.
Who Offset Is
Offset, born Kiari Kendrell Cephus, grew up in Lawrenceville, Georgia, outside Atlanta. He rose to fame as a founding member of Migos alongside his cousins Quavo and Takeoff. The trio became one of the most influential hip-hop groups of the 2010s, known for pioneering the rapid-fire triplet flow that reshaped the sound of trap music and was widely imitated across the genre.
Migos broke through nationally with their 2013 track "Versace" and went on to score a string of multiplatinum hits including "Bad and Boujee," which topped the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart, as well as "Stir Fry," "Narcos," "T-Shirt," and "Walk It Talk It." The group released four studio albums and received a Grammy nomination for best rap album in 2018 for "Culture."
A Solo Career Built on His Own Terms
Offset launched his solo career before Migos officially disbanded. He released his debut solo album "Father of Four" in 2019, followed by "Set It Off" in 2023. He described the latter to the Associated Press as an effort to bring rap back to its roots at a time when the genre was increasingly dominated by singing. His third solo album, "Kiari," followed in 2025. He described it as a personal reckoning: "Me, for what I am. And recognizing who I am, because I feel like sometimes you could get lost in trying to please other people."
Tragedy Has Touched This Family Before
Monday's shooting came more than three years after the death of Takeoff, Offset's cousin and fellow Migos member. Takeoff was fatally shot in November 2022 outside a bowling alley in Houston after a dispute over a dice game. He was 28. His death led to an international outpouring of grief and effectively marked the end of Migos as a group. Patrick Xavier Clark was indicted for the murder in May 2023 and is scheduled to go on trial in November 2026.
In the aftermath of Takeoff's death, the third Migos member, Quavo, organized a gun violence summit in 2024 in his nephew's memory.
Takeoff's death was part of a devastating stretch of gun violence in hip-hop that also claimed the lives of Nipsey Hussle, Pop Smoke, PnB Rock, and Young Dolph.
Offset's Personal Life
Offset and rapper Cardi B were secretly married in Atlanta in September 2017. Cardi B filed for divorce in 2024. They have three children together. Offset has three additional children from prior relationships.
The investigation into Monday's shooting is ongoing.
