Presley Gerber, Son of Cindy Crawford, Dies at 27 at Rehab Facility
Presley Gerber, model and the only son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, has died at 27, a representative for the family confirmed.
What Happened
Gerber died Sunday, September 20, at a rehabilitation facility, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner records obtained by multiple outlets. A cause of death has not been released, and an autopsy had not been completed as of this report. "The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time," a representative for the family said in a statement.
Gerber is the older of two children Crawford and Gerber share, and the brother of model and actress Kaia Gerber. He was born in California in 1999.
His Modeling Career
Gerber began modeling at age 15 after being signed by IMG Models. He made his runway debut at Moschino's Resort 2017 show in Los Angeles at 16 and went on to walk in shows for Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry, Bottega Veneta, Tommy Hilfiger, and Ralph Lauren, in addition to campaigns for Calvin Klein.
A Public Struggle With Mental Health and Addiction
Gerber had spoken openly in recent years about his mental health and substance use struggles. Appearing on the Studio 22 podcast in 2023, he described raising mental health awareness as "such a big part of my life" and ran his own "Mental Health Mondays" initiative, in addition to working with organizations including the Los Angeles homelessness charity A Sense of Home, according to DNA Model Management.
In a video posted to Instagram last December that was later removed, Gerber detailed his use of prescription medication, including antidepressants and Xanax for panic attacks. "Unfortunately, I've had a lot of loss in many different forms recently," he said in the video. "So that is not an excuse, but it's the reason why I am where I'm at now." He had also said he'd seen more than 15 psychiatrists throughout his struggles and had discussed medications including buprenorphine and Valium in connection with his panic attacks, adding that he had reached five months of sobriety from alcohol at one point.
At the time of that video, Crawford commented publicly in support of her son, writing, "Presley — we love you and you are not alone." according to CNN.
His Sister's Reflections
Kaia Gerber has spoken about her brother's openness in the past, describing how their parents had historically kept their private lives guarded. "My parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn't share anything," she said, "and now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, 'I'm gonna be very human for everyone.' There's only so much you can hide from the world. And trying to put a lid on something just makes the person feel like you're ashamed of them."
