Olivia Rodrigo Is Launching Her Own Music Festival — and the Lineup Is Stacked
Olivia Rodrigo is founding a music festival.
The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter announced Daisy Chain Fields on June 22, a single-day, all-women festival set for Aug. 29 at Great Park in Irvine, California. Every dollar of net proceeds will go to nonprofit organizations dedicated to advancing and advocating for women and girls.
"Truly never felt more excited to share a piece of news with you all," Rodrigo wrote on Instagram. "I've had a dream of doing this festival for years and I am so ecstatic it's finally coming true!!"
The Lineup
The festival's artist roster spans generations and genres. Performers include Chappell Roan, Doechii, Mitski, Bikini Kill, Garbage, Katseye, The Breeders, Santigold, Die Spitz, Rachel Chinouriri, Quiet Light, Eli and Not for Radio, with special guest appearances from Stevie Nicks, Karen O and Sarah McLachlan.
"The lineup is truly insane and full of my heroes and friends," Rodrigo wrote. "I firmly believe that joy, community and music can be the drivers of meaningful change and I'm hopeful this festival will be just that."
When Good Morning America's Diane Sawyer suggested she'd love to see Rodrigo and Nicks perform Nicks' classic "Landslide" together, Rodrigo didn't shut it down. "We might make that happen for you, Diane," she said.
The artists are performing for free. All of them.
Inspired by Lilith Fair
Rodrigo has been open about the festival's spiritual predecessor. In 1997, singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan launched Lilith Fair, an all-women touring festival that ran for three summers and became one of the best-attended concert events of the decade.
Rodrigo said the first call she made when the idea came together was to McLachlan herself. "She's a total trailblazer and an incredible artist and a friend," Rodrigo said on Good Morning America. "Women singer-songwriters in the '90s, they're my northern stars."
McLachlan is now among the special guests on the Daisy Chain Fields lineup.
The Name
Rodrigo said the festival's name came from a specific mental image. "I had an image in my head of girls sitting underneath a tree, making their daisy chains or flower crowns or friendship bracelets," she said. "I also just like the idea of a daisy chain — that we can all be individual links in this chain that is larger than the individual."
Her full mission statement reads: "Daisies are wild and beautiful. As a chain, they are strong and unbreakable."
The Cause
All net proceeds from the festival will benefit 10 nonprofit organizations, including Planned Parenthood, the National Women's Law Center, the Center for Reproductive Rights, Black Mamas Matter Alliance, Baby2Baby, FreeFrom, Jhpiego, the Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health, the National Domestic Workers Alliance and the National Institute for Reproductive Health.
The festival will also feature nonprofit activations, art installations, community experiences, local vendors and fan pop-ups.
The Timing
The announcement comes weeks after Rodrigo released her third album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, making her the first female artist in nearly a decade to top the chart with each of her first three albums. She has sold more than 36 million albums globally.
Daisy Chain Fields is produced by C3 Presents and Live Nation. Ticket presale access begins June 24 at 10 a.m. PT at DaisyChainFields.com.
