MTV's Tyler Duckworth Found Dead After Ceiling Leak Report

Tyler Duckworth, the two-time winner of MTV's The Challenge, died at his apartment in Grand Forks, North Dakota, according to police. He was 44.

Duckworth was found dead in his bathroom on Tuesday, Aug. 11, after officers responded to a call about water coming through the ceiling of the apartment below his, the Grand Forks Police Department told PEOPLE. Officers arrived at roughly 11:45 a.m. and traced the leak to the bathtub in his bathroom.

Authorities said there were no signs of foul play or a suspicious death, and the case is being treated as an unattended death. Duckworth's cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy and toxicology testing.

A Career That Began on Real World

Duckworth's reality television career started in 2006 on MTV's The Real World: Key West, shortly after he graduated from Tufts University. He went on to compete across six seasons of The Challenge, including The Duel, The Gauntlet III, Cutthroat, Rivals, All Stars 2 and All Stars 3, winning the competition twice, on Cutthroat and Rivals.

Outside of reality television, Duckworth worked as a middle and high school teacher.

Recent Public Appearance

Duckworth's death came about two weeks after he attended a Challenge Mania fan event in Minneapolis on July 31 alongside fellow franchise alumni including Rachel Robinson, Brad Fiorenza, Tina Barta and Mark Long. He posted photos from the event to Instagram on Aug. 2, calling it a chance to represent his hometown, in what turned out to be his final post.

Fellow Challenge and Big Brother alum Paulie Calafiore, who appeared alongside Duckworth at the event, paid tribute on Instagram, writing that Duckworth's "vibrant energy" would be missed and sending condolences to his family and friends.

Family Confirms His Death

Duckworth's mother, Joni Duckworth, confirmed his death in a Facebook post on Thursday, Aug. 13. She said a cause of death had not yet been determined and that she would share information about services once details are finalized with his father.
