Kiefer Sutherland Accused of Assaulting Uber Driver in Los Angeles
Actor Kiefer Sutherland was arrested early Monday after allegedly threatening and assaulting an Uber driver during a late-night ride in Los Angeles, according to a report from TMZ.
The 59-year-old actor told police he ordered an Uber Black after having dinner with a friend late Sunday night and asked the driver to take him to his home. According to the driver’s account, the ride escalated when Sutherland asked to be let out of the vehicle before reaching the destination.
When the driver did not immediately pull over, Sutherland allegedly threatened to kill him if he did not stop the car, the report said.
Police Called Near Sunset Boulevard
The Uber driver called 911 around 12:15 a.m., reporting that he had been assaulted near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue. Responding officers determined that Sutherland had physically assaulted the driver and made criminal threats, according to the report.
When police arrived at the scene, the driver requested a translator. A source cited by TMZ said the driver may have spoken Russian or Armenian.
Sutherland was taken into custody and arrested on felony charges related to making criminal threats. He was later released on $50,000 bail.
Pattern of Past Legal Issues
The incident adds to a history of prior legal troubles for the Emmy-winning actor.
In 2009, Sutherland faced assault charges following a confrontation at a nightclub in New York City. According to reporting at the time, the altercation occurred during an after-party for the Met Gala when fashion designer Jack McCullough allegedly bumped into actress Brooke Shields.
Sutherland reportedly intervened and head-butted McCullough, leaving him with injuries that McCullough’s representative said included a broken nose.
That incident followed a 2007 arrest for drunken driving in California. Sutherland later served 48 days in jail after violating probation related to that case.
No Public Comment Yet
As of publication, Sutherland has not publicly commented on the Uber incident, and representatives for the actor have not issued a statement. Uber also has not commented publicly on the matter.
Court records related to the felony charge were not immediately available, and it remains unclear when Sutherland is expected to appear before a judge.
This incident marks another serious legal issue for the actor, who has faced multiple arrests and assault allegations over the past two decades.
