Jared Leto Accused of Criminal Sexual Conduct by Four Women
Jared Leto has been accused of criminal sexual conduct by four women in a new BBC documentary examining a pattern of alleged behavior toward teenage girls and young women dating back more than two decades.
The documentary, Jared Leto: Hollywood's Dark Secret, aired Wednesday and features a total of 10 women who allege inappropriate conduct by the Oscar-winning actor and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman, nine of whom the BBC says are sharing their accounts publicly for the first time. The alleged incidents span from 2002 to 2016, a period during which Leto was in his 30s and 40s.
According to the BBC, one woman, identified as Isabel, alleges she was sexually assaulted by Leto in a motel bathroom when she was 17, after having agreed to meet him following an earlier encounter at a store where she worked. A second woman says Leto threatened her with sexual assault when she was 19, after she was unexpectedly left alone with him in a hotel room. A third woman alleges she had sex with Leto in California when she was 17, below the state's age of consent, which would be classified as statutory rape; she claims Leto dismissed a conversation about the legal age of consent at the time. A fourth woman, identified as Etta, alleges Leto made repeated sexually explicit phone calls to her when she was 16 after meeting him through a Los Angeles modeling agency in 2014, and says she was later asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement by Leto's lawyer, which she declined to sign.
Beyond those four accounts, several additional women who appear in the documentary say they received what they described as strange and sexually charged phone calls from Leto when they were younger.
Corroboration and Leto's Response
The BBC said it corroborated a number of the women's accounts with friends and family members who say they were told about the encounters with Leto at the time, and that in some cases it also reviewed photos and messages supporting the women's claims.
Leto did not respond to repeated attempts by the BBC to reach him for comment on the documentary's allegations, and representatives for the actor did not immediately respond to requests for comment from multiple outlets following its release. Leto has previously denied allegations of sexual misconduct raised against him.
Part of a Longer Pattern of Allegations
Public claims against Leto date back to at least 2005, when the New York Post reported on rumors involving his interactions with teenage models. Renewed attention came in 2025, after Los Angeles DJ Allie Teilz shared a 2012 Facebook post on Instagram alleging Leto had tried to force himself on her backstage at a concert when she was 17. That same year, an Air Mail investigation featured nine women who described inappropriate conduct by Leto, several of whom said they were underage at the time. Leto's representatives denied those allegations when they were first published.
Two men who worked with Leto's band, Thirty Seconds to Mars, also spoke to the BBC for the new documentary, saying they were uncomfortable with the age gap between Leto and some of the teenage girls he interacted with, including instances of girls being invited backstage or to houses where the band was recording.
No criminal charges have been filed against Leto in connection with any of the allegations.
