Actor Zachery Ty Bryan, best known for his role as Brad Taylor on the 1990s ABC sitcom Home Improvement, is facing new allegations of assault following the release of court documents detailing an alleged violent encounter with a former girlfriend. According to reporting from TMZ, the incident took place in the summer of 2025 and is the latest in a series of legal troubles for the former child star.

Court records referenced in the report allege that Bryan punched his then-girlfriend during an argument in July 2025 after she reportedly “bit his nipple” while the two were lying down together. The documents also state that the woman later told law enforcement she feared for her safety. During a separate verbal dispute, Bryan allegedly told her to “shut the f-ck up or I’m gonna shut you up,” according to the accounts described in the filing.

Restraining Order Imposed

The court documents outline multiple alleged acts of violence and property damage. During one argument, the woman reported that Bryan grabbed their dog and locked himself inside another room. She told police that he punched the door with enough force to split it from its frame.

The woman also alleged a separate incident from June 2025 in which Bryan reportedly sprayed their dog in the face with bleach. The court ultimately issued a restraining order requiring Bryan to remain 100 yards away from the woman for the next five years, through September 29, 2030.

According to TMZ, the alleged victim dated Bryan for approximately three months.

A History of Legal Problems

The new allegations follow a pattern of legal trouble that Bryan has faced over the past several years. In October 2020, Bryan was arrested in Oregon and charged with “menacing – constituting domestic violence and assault in the fourth degree – constituting domestic violence,” according to reporting from Fox News. The charges stemmed from an incident involving his then-girlfriend, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, whom he allegedly attempted to strangle.

Bryan later entered a guilty plea in the 2020 case but downplayed the seriousness of the incident in public comments. “We didn’t even really get that physical,” he said in an interview at the time. “We got really loud. We were screaming, and because we were in a townhome that had [thin walls], everybody could hear. Johnnie was, at the time, just really upset about my situation.”

Additional Arrests in 2023 and 2024

Bryan was arrested again in July 2023 on multiple assault-related charges, continuing a pattern of encounters with law enforcement. In October 2024, he was arrested in Oklahoma on suspicion of driving under the influence after officers reportedly found him asleep at the wheel of his Range Rover on the side of the road. After he resumed driving, officers initiated a traffic stop. Fox News reported that during the encounter, Bryan apologized and told the officer, “I’m just a good dude, man, I don’t know why everybody— I’m sorry, I like to drink.”

Months earlier in 2024, Bryan was arrested in California on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and cited for misdemeanor contempt of court after officers stopped a vehicle believed to have been involved in a recent collision.

Court Orders Seizure of Royalties in 2025

In addition to his criminal cases, Bryan faced financial consequences in March 2025 when a court authorized the seizure of his royalties to repay a six-figure debt. According to court documents obtained by InTouch, Bryan had entered into an agreement with a man named Cameron Moore, who invested $60,000 into a film project through Bryan’s production company. In return, Moore was to be repaid the principal amount, an additional $12,000 in interest, and a share of the film’s profits.

The court found that Moore fulfilled his obligations but never received the agreed-upon payments. As a result, the judge ruled that all royalties owed to Bryan could be seized until the more than $108,000 in debt was repaid.

Ongoing Legal Fallout

The newly surfaced allegations add to a lengthy record of legal and financial challenges for Bryan, who has not publicly commented on the most recent claims. The restraining order imposed in the latest case will remain in effect through 2030 unless modified by the courts.

The incident highlights a pattern of allegations spanning multiple years and states, involving accusations of domestic violence, property damage, substance-related arrests, and civil litigation. As of now, no trial dates connected to the latest allegations have been announced, and the case continues to develop.
