Floyd Roger Myers Jr., ‘Fresh Prince’ Actor, Dies at 42
Floyd Roger Myers Jr., the former child actor best known for portraying a young version of Will Smith on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, has died at the age of 42.
According to TMZ, Myers’ mother, Renee Trice, confirmed that he died early Wednesday, October 29, from a heart attack at his home in Maryland. Trice said that her son had suffered three previous heart attacks over the last three years.
Early Stardom in the 1990s
Myers’ most memorable role came in 1992, when he played a young Will Smith in the Fresh Prince Season 3 episode “Will Gets Committed.” The episode offered a flashback glimpse into the character’s youth and quickly became a fan favorite among longtime viewers of the iconic sitcom.
That same year, Myers appeared as young Marlon Jackson in the hit miniseries The Jacksons: An American Dream, which dramatized the early years of the Jackson family and their rise to fame. The performance earned Myers praise for capturing the energy and innocence of the young Jackson 5 member.
Myers’ acting career slowed in the late 1990s, with his final recorded role being a brief appearance in the 2000 television series Young Americans, where he played an unnamed student.
A Life Beyond Hollywood
After stepping away from acting, Myers built a successful life outside the entertainment industry. He owned a duct cleaning business in the Maryland area and became a respected community figure.
In addition to his business, Myers co-founded The Fellaship Men’s Group, a local organization focused on men’s mental health, support, and personal growth. The group’s mission was to create a space where men could discuss real-life challenges and work toward self-improvement.
Following the news of his death, the organization shared a tribute on Instagram honoring Myers’ impact on their community.
RIP to our good brother @rocwonder one of our co-founders. Gone but never will be forgotten,” the post read. “The mission will continue in your honor. Next men's meeting will be one for the books like we talked about! Love you bro, rest easy, big bro will take it from here.
The tribute reflected the close bonds Myers built with those around him and the legacy of mentorship he left behind.
Remembered as a Loving Father
In addition to his community work, Myers was remembered as a devoted father. Just weeks before his passing, he shared a video on Instagram celebrating his daughter’s 10th birthday, expressing his pride and excitement for her future.
“Happy 10th birthday to my baby girl!! The life of the party and always a bright light in the room!! I’m so happy to be your father, can’t wait what the next 10yrs,” he wrote in the caption.
The post, filled with joy and gratitude, now serves as a poignant reminder of his love for his family and his positive outlook on life despite his health struggles.
