Fans who've been following Dave Coulier's health updates learned this week that the actor is facing another major health challenge.

Months after finishing treatment for stage three non-Hodgkin lymphoma, doctors found a second, unrelated cancer during a routine scan.

The discovery came as a surprise, especially so soon after he completed chemotherapy, but Coulier says he is staying positive and focusing on treatment.

The new diagnosis is p16 squamous carcinoma, a form of head and neck cancer that developed at the base of his tongue.

It was caught during a checkup that included a PET scan, something he has stayed consistent with since completing lymphoma treatment.

His medical team explained that this second cancer had no connection to the lymphoma he battled last year, which gave him some reassurance, even as he stepped into a new round of care.

A Second Round of Treatment

Dave shared that his treatment plan involves 35 sessions of radiation, a schedule that will take him through December.

The process has been demanding, but he has remained focused on taking each step as it comes. He also emphasized that the prognosis for p16 squamous carcinoma is strong if it’s caught early, something his doctors reiterated when they were mapping out his next steps.

That message about timing has quickly turned into one of the biggest themes of his story.

Coulier believes early cancer detection played a major role in catching both illnesses before they progressed. Regular checkups, screenings, and follow-up scans helped his doctors spot changes that would have been easy to miss without a close eye on his health.

A Shift in Lifestyle and a New Project

Dave’s return to cancer treatment also inspired a new venture. Recently, he launched AwearMarket, a digital marketplace focused on toxin-free and holistic products.

The idea grew from his own experience during chemotherapy, when he began removing chemical-heavy items from his home and looking for cleaner alternatives.

The project became a way to support other people who might be going through their own health journeys and searching for safer everyday products.

Looking Back at His First Diagnosis

Coulier first revealed his stage three non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis in 2024.

The illness initially appeared to be a simple respiratory infection before swollen lymph nodes sent him to the doctor for further testing.

He was diagnosed quickly thereafter, and described those early weeks as a whirlwind. Through it all, he focused on staying steady for his wife, Melissa, as they navigated the treatment together.

Sadly, cancer is not new to the Coulier family. He’s lost close relatives to breast cancer, and another family member has also faced her own diagnosis.

Those personal experiences shaped how he approached treatment, giving him an appreciation for the strength he saw in the women in his family. That perspective helped guide him through the toughest days of his chemotherapy.

Earlier this year, Coulier spoke about how unpredictable treatment felt.

Some rounds exhausted him physically and mentally, leaving him unsure of what the next day would bring.

He and his wife even had difficult conversations about the future on days when treatment felt overwhelming, and sharing that part of his journey has become important to him because he knows others will have the same emotions.

Why He’s Sharing His Story Again

As Dave moves through his second cancer diagnosis, he hopes his story will encourage others to put their health first.

Regular screenings, paying attention to symptoms, and staying connected with a trusted doctor can make all the difference.

For him, early cancer detection changed the direction of both diagnoses, and he wants others to understand how powerful that can be.

Hopeful About the Months Ahead

Dave says there’s still plenty to look forward to, and he remains hopeful about the months ahead.

Although his treatment continues and recovery takes time, he hopes that staying informed and being proactive will help anyone in similar shoes be more prepared.
