Darrell Sheets was found dead in his Lake Havasu City, Arizona home around 2 a.m. on April 22. He was 67. Police say the cause appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The death remains under investigation.

A&E put out a statement calling him "a beloved member of our Storage Wars family" and expressing condolences to his loved ones.

Who He Was

If you watched Storage Wars at any point in its 17-plus seasons on A&E, you know Darrell Sheets. He was the one who'd look at a storage locker that everyone else passed on and buy it anyway — the guy who bet on himself when the odds said don't. That instinct earned him the nickname "The Gambler" and made him one of the most entertaining people on a show built entirely around that kind of tension.

He appeared in 163 episodes after the show premiered in 2010 and spent 32 years in the storage auction business before any cameras showed up. He loved it. His own bio on the Storage Wars website said he loved the "high" of storage auctions and chasing that score.

His sense of humor was intact right until the end. When asked what he collected these days he had a simple answer — "The only thing I collect these days is dead presidents."

His son Brandon appeared on the series too, following his dad into the storage game. Sheets had talked about wanting to pass the adventure and education of the business down to him. He's also survived by daughter Tiffany Shane Sheets.

His Last Chapter

In 2019, Sheets revealed he had suffered a heart attack. After that he stepped back from the show, left the storage locker world, relocated to Arizona, and opened an antiques store in Lake Havasu City. His appearances on Storage Wars became rare. He had largely stepped out of the public eye.

What Was Happening Before He Died

In the months leading up to his death, Sheets had been publicly speaking out about what he described as a severe cyberbullying campaign against him.

He alleged that a couple named Jim and Allison Thacker had stolen his identity and were harassing him online — targeting small businesses and posting damaging content using his name. The campaign, by his account, had been relentless and deeply distressing.

Fellow Storage Wars cast member Rene Nezhoda confirmed that Sheets had been "really, really tormented" by the harassment in the period before his death and urged authorities to investigate.

The Lake Havasu City Police Department has acknowledged the cyberbullying claims and is actively investigating them as part of the broader case into his death. No official determination has been made linking the harassment directly to his suicide, but police consider it a significant factor in their ongoing inquiry.

He was 67 years old and living quietly in the desert when police found him Wednesday morning. What was happening in his life or in his own mind leading up until that moment, no one truly knows.
