Cher Just Found Out She Has a 15-Year-Old Granddaughter
Cher is a grandmother. She just found out about it last summer.
Kayti Edwards — a former model who now runs a horse rescue center in Joshua Tree and happens to be Julie Andrews' step-granddaughter — told The Sun in an April 19 interview that she has a 15-year-old daughter named Ever with Cher's son Elijah Blue Allman. The two were briefly involved romantically in 2010. Allman, she says, never wanted to be a parent and was not involved in raising the child.
Ever is now 15 and only found out last month who her father actually is.
How Cher Found Out
After a 2021 drug overdose, Allman apparently told his then-wife that he had fathered a child, which started rumors within the family. But it wasn't until last June that Cher reached out to Edwards directly to ask if it was true.
"Cher got in touch with me last June and asked if it was true, so I had to confess," Edwards said. "She said she had heard something about it from Elijah back in 2021 but didn't know if it was just crazy talk. When she heard the news, she was speechless."
Cher's rep had no comment.
How It's Going
By September the two had met in person. Cher invited Edwards and Ever to stay at her Malibu home where they had dinner, played in the pool, and Cher showed her teenage granddaughter a pair of jeans she had worn on stage in concert.
"Cher was very childlike," Edwards said. "They played in the pool, and she spoke to Ever about school and asked her about boys."
Cher has since sent Ever Christmas and birthday gifts and stayed in contact for both occasions.
"Cher really is trying. It's an adjustment, and I'm not pushing any relationship. It has to come naturally," Edwards said. She also revealed that Allman and his wife had told her Cher didn't want to be a grandmother and to keep Ever away — which turned out to be completely wrong. "It's been nothing but a good experience."
Cher, 79, is described as "still processing the news" — which is understandable given that she's been a grandmother for 15 years without knowing it.
Who Elijah Blue Allman Is
Elijah Blue Allman, 48, is Cher's younger son with rock legend Gregg Allman — the founding member of the Allman Brothers Band whom Cher married in 1975, just four days after her divorce from Sonny Bono was finalized. The marriage was famously turbulent and short-lived, with Gregg Allman's drug use a central factor in their split. They divorced in 1979 though remained connected through their son.
Elijah grew up in the shadow of two enormous musical legacies and pursued his own music career, fronting the rock band Deadsy. He has spoken publicly over the years about struggling with the weight of his parents' fame and his own battles with addiction — a struggle that has defined much of his adult life and now sits at the center of a serious legal fight with his mother.
The Bigger Picture With Elijah
The timing of this story is notable. It's breaking in the middle of a serious legal situation involving Allman — who has been struggling with addiction for years and was arrested twice in New Hampshire in March. One arrest followed a reported residential break-in with forced entry. The other came days earlier after he allegedly caused a disturbance at a prep school.
Cher recently filed a new request to place Allman under a temporary conservatorship, alleging he is "gravely disabled" and "has no concept of money" due to "severe mental health and addiction issues." His half-brother Devon Allman — Gregg's son from another relationship — also wrote to the court calling Allman "a danger to himself" who is unable to manage his life or finances.
This is Cher's second conservatorship attempt. She filed one previously in 2023 and dismissed it in September 2024 after reaching a private agreement. The fact that she's back in court suggests whatever arrangement was reached last time didn't hold.
Conservatorships are legally complicated and emotionally charged at the best of times. For a parent watching a child spiral and feeling like the only option left is the courts — it's a position nobody wants to be in.
Edwards is clear-eyed about where Allman stands in all of this. She says she kept Ever away from him deliberately because he wasn't in any state to be a father. She hopes that changes.
"He wants to see her and have a relationship with her, but he wasn't in any state," she said. "I had to shelter her from him, and when he gets better, he will appreciate that."
"He needs to get back to being the guy I once knew, and Cher agrees. We need to get him better."
Allman has multiple court appearances this week — Monday for the Concord case, Wednesday for the Windham case, and a conservatorship hearing on Friday, April 24.
The Grandmother Part
In the middle of all of it — the arrests, the conservatorship filings, the legal hearings — a 79-year-old music icon is quietly learning how to be a grandmother to a teenager she met nine months ago.
Showing her the jeans she wore on stage. Playing in the pool. Asking about school and boys. Sending Christmas and birthday gifts.
It's a genuinely tender detail in an otherwise heavy story. Cher has spent decades being one of the most recognizable people on the planet. Now she's doing something millions of grandmothers do every day — just getting to know a kid and figuring out what kind of grandmother she wants to be.
By all accounts she's doing a pretty good job of it.
