After nearly five years of living with blood cancer, Sam Neill says he is now cancer-free.

The 78-year-old actor, best known for Jurassic Park, shared the update during an interview with Australia’s 7News, revealing that recent scans showed no cancer in his body after undergoing an experimental treatment in Australia.

This news is a major turning point in what has been a long and very public health battle for the actor.

Sam Neill's Stage 3 Lymphoma Diagnosis Became Public in 2023

Sam first revealed his diagnosis in 2023 in his memoir, Did I Ever Tell You This?

He first noticed swollen glands while promoting Jurassic World Dominion in 2022. Later, he was diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

At the time, Sam shared that he had started chemotherapy and expected to continue treatment indefinitely.

He also admitted that writing the memoir became a way to process the uncertainty surrounding his diagnosis.

When Chemotherapy Stopped Working

According to Sam, chemotherapy initially kept the cancer under control, though he described the process as “pretty miserable.”

Eventually, though, the treatment stopped working.

Sam said there was a point where he thought he was on his way out, which prompted him to pursue a clinical trial involving CAR T-cell therapy.

That’s where the current Sam Neill lymphoma treatment story changed direction.

The Therapy Behind the Recovery

The treatment Sam underwent is known as CAR T-cell therapy, a form of immunotherapy that changes a person’s immune cells to help them recognize and attack the cancer.

The therapy has shown promising results in certain blood cancers, though access is still limited in many countries because of cost and availability.

Sam participated in a clinical trial in Australia and later described the outcome as extraordinary, while also stressing that the success came from science and medical research, not miracles.

His experience has quickly become a widely shared CAR T-cell therapy success story.

He’s Now Advocating for Broader Access

Since announcing the update, Sam has also begun speaking publicly about expanding access to these newer treatments.

He’s partnered with the Snowdome Foundation, an Australian blood cancer organization focused on funding research and clinical trials.

Part of his message is focused on how expensive and difficult these therapies still are for many patients.

In Australia, some forms of CAR T-cell therapy can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars privately.

A Different Tone Around the Conversation Now

When Sam first spoke publicly about his cancer, the tone was much more uncertain.

He openly discussed mortality in interviews around the release of his memoir, saying he wasn’t afraid of death, but that he found the idea frustrating because there was still more he wanted to do.

Now, the conversation sounds very different.

Following the clean scan, Sam joked that it might finally be time to do another movie.

A Story That Has Resonated Beyond Hollywood

Part of why this Jurassic Park actor's cancer news story has spread so widely is because Sam has spoken about the experience in a very direct, grounded way.

He never framed his illness dramatically. Instead, he talked openly about treatment, uncertainty, aging, and trying to keep moving forward while living with cancer.

Now, after years of treatment and setbacks, the latest Sam Neill cancer-free update has become a rare kind of celebrity health story: one rooted in real medical progress, persistence, and the possibility of more time ahead.
