Ninja CREAMi Owners Are Checking Their Machines After a Viral Maggot Video
There are some things we don't particularly want mixed into our homemade ice cream.
Maggots are very high on that list.
A viral TikTok has Ninja CREAMi owners checking their machines after creator Arriella Simons shared a video showing what appeared to be maggots inside the appliance.
The video has been viewed millions of times, and other CREAMi owners have since shared some rather unpleasant discoveries of their own.
Before we abandon homemade ice cream forever, though, Ninja has weighed in.
It Started With One Very Unpleasant Discovery
Arriella posted her video after noticing something on her spoon while eating a frozen treat she'd made in her CREAMi.
She initially checked her milk, almond milk, protein powder, and other ingredients.
Then, she and her boyfriend inspected the machine.
That's when they spotted what appeared to be maggots inside the Ninja CREAMi lid.
The particularly unsettling part is that Arriella said she cleans the machine every night.
Her video prompted other owners to inspect their own machines, with some posting videos showing similar problems.
Ninja Says the Machine Needs to Come Apart
SharkNinja contacted Arriella and discussed proper cleaning instructions with her.
The company also arranged to have her machine sent back so its team could examine it.
According to SharkNinja, CREAMi components are designed to be disassembled and cleaned after every use.
And Ninja CREAMi cleaning involves a little more than giving the obvious parts a quick rinse.
The company's cleaning guide says everyone should remove the Creamerizer paddle and the gasket from the outer bowl lid before cleaning.
Warm water should also be run through the paddle-release lever and out the drain holes on both sides of the lid.
Don't Forget the Spindle
If you're now wondering how to clean a Ninja CREAMi without ever encountering this particular ice cream topping, there are a few more places to remember.
Ninja says the spindle beneath the control panel should be wiped with a damp cloth after every use.
The paddle, lids, pint, outer bowl, and gasket can be washed with warm, soapy water. They're also top-rack dishwasher safe.
Drying matters, too.
Ninja says people should positiong the outer bowl lid at an angle with the lever pointing down so it can drain completely.
The gasket and lid should be allowed to air-dry separately before everything goes back together.

It's worth emphasizing that the viral Ninja CREAMi maggots videos don't mean every machine is hiding an unwanted surprise.
But, they’re a pretty convincing reminder that food can find its way into the less obvious parts of our kitchen appliances.
So, if there's a CREAMi sitting on your counter, tonight might be a good night to take that lid apart and give everything a thorough cleaning.
